A Winter Note

It’s a snowy day here in Ottawa as I write this, and I’m struck by how quickly the holidays are approaching.
For those who are looking forward to time with family and friends, I hope this season brings moments of joy, connection, and rest — whatever it is you most need right now.
And for those who are feeling something different: grief, loneliness, strained relationships, or simply exhaustion, I want you to know you are not alone. These conversations are far more common in my therapy room than the excitement we often see portrayed at this time of year.
The human experience was never meant to be joyful all the time. Yet, media images (especially on social media) can place enormous pressure on us to feel grateful and happy all the time, particularly during the holidays.
If you can find a few moments of rest or contentment amid the pressures of this busy time of year, that truly is enough. And if you feel both gratitude and sadness, that is okay too. Releasing the pressure to make everything perfect can be a real act of self-care. You are in very good company if this season feels tender.
I’m sending care and warm wishes to each of you.

For over ten years, I’ve presented to school parent councils and community groups, to spread awareness about youth mental health. These talks are designed to be accessible, welcoming, and to open up meaningful conversations among parents.
I already have four presentations scheduled for early 2026, including both virtual and school-based events. Upcoming topics include:
